5 Tips To Stop Panic Attacks

Panic attacks can be an uncomfortable and often embarrassing experience for sufferers. It can happen anytime without warning and the feelings can be so extreme you could think you are going to die!

Panic attacks or anxiety attacks as they are sometimes called seriously affect the quality of your life. The condition usually starts in early adulthood, but there are also cases of young children suffering from it too.


The attacks involve a physical sensation of extreme fear, caused by an anxious thought that occurs when the fear reaction is inappropriate because there’s no real danger present. The attacks are tiring, discouraging and extremely depressing for sufferers. However, there are steps you can take to overcome panic attacks and lead a normal life.

Tips for treating panic attack

  • Breathing exercises. Take slow deep breaths when you start feeling anxious. This will help calm you down.
  • Alkaline diets work best. They help to calm the body. An alkaline diet includes eating more fruits and vegetables like apples, oranges, pineapple, almonds, broccoli and cucumber. You need to have an 80% alkaline diet to maintain balance in your body.
  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine. Caffeine is a stimulant and drinking too much of it will cause anxiety and nervousness. As for alcohol, it has a calming effect in the beginning and after a while creates symptoms related to anxiety.
  • Cognitive-behavioural therapy. It is a very successful method of treating panic disorders. Basically, the “cognitive” part involves identifying when you’re on the edge of a panic attack and the “behaviour” part can involve relaxation techniques, desensitization and breathing exercises.
  • Counseling helps. Go see a counselor or therapist who has experience treating people who suffer from panic attacks. It might be hard initially but he or she will help you with your condition so that you can lead a more productive and enjoyable life.
